Come out to LUSH on Armitage in Chicago Lincoln Park tomorrow night from 6:00 til 9:00 pm for an event I can’t remember the name of, but was asked to participate in last minute!!!

Apparently, businesses all along Armitage in Lincoln park are featuring local artists and artisans and Lock and Key Press will have its goods set up around the shop for sale! OMG!

There is another artist going to be there, as well as food from Karyn’s Raw Cafe, a raw foods restaurant here in town.

So spread it around! if you’re in Chicago and want something fun to kick off your Friday night, come get some delicious bath and beauty products and hand made letterpress prints!

Dragon Girl Note Cards

Dragon Girl Note Cards

I LOVE these cards. This Dragon Girl is so adorable! Look at her cute little feet, and her innocent smile. Plus, she’s got a dragon! Hanging on to him like he’s a plushie, and he wraps his tail around her so gently and lovingly. Yeah I REALLY love these cards!

The cut these cards are printed from is unique and antique. I found it in a box of old printing cuts I acquired. The really cool thing, is that it is 2 pieces that are not original to each other. The dragon girl is a professionally made magnesium cut from the 1940s. During its life someone decided that she needed to be a 2 color cut and then HAND CARVED into a wooden block the sections of blue for the dragon’s body. The juxtaposition of the two cuts is so interesting.

Get off my lawn! Damn Kids.

Get off my lawn! Damn Kids.

Printed in crazy circus colors of blue and orange on vintage bright green paper, a maniacal clown bursts out of a paper ring and lets you know he doesn’t appreciate you stepping off the sidewalk…

The clown image was printed from an antique copper printer’s cut, or block. I thought it was just a clown until I pulled a test print and he was all screaming and pointing and… OLD. Weird.

Cards come in a set of four with 4 blue envelopes. Colophon has another creepy clown on the back of the card.

Happiness

Happiness Note Cards. Hand letterpressed using antique lead type and a Victorian woodcut. Soon to be the last prints of the cut, as it is very old and delicate and won’t stand up to being printed for much longer.

The Digital Letterpress class made a bunch of photo polymer plates of their unique art work, and are working on printing their projects. Polymer plate making
Arranging Negatives for making plate.

These back-to-back classes wear me out, but its a lot of fun. We’re starting a Student Collection of prints created by the individuals who take classes at Firecracker. Its growing steadily and is full of beautiful pieces of art! i’ll take some pictures next week.

Things I must do Today:

• price brown kraft cardstock at Xpedx

call Mr. Niehaus about Tulsa Hub job he die cut for me

• cut paper for mini-valentines

• print mini-valentines

• layout address books

• Drink more water, i’m getting a headache…

Yee Haw! i had my first Etsy sale last night! Someone bought a bunch of gift bows I made! I’m so glad I thought of doing that, they’ve been so popular!

I also got a request to do some business cards for some one. I sent her a message outlining what I could do at the price she requested. I hope she thinks its good, or at least messages me back and haggles a bit. I like haggling. Its true. I’m a haggler. Not in appropriately though, I don’t get to the check out at the grocery store and say, “Will you take $50 for everything?” (tho secretly i wish I could).

Also, i have secured a heat source for the sunroom, so now I think I can print my little heart out with out losing circulation in my extremities! Hurrah! Best part is, I traded a set of note cards for it. Like I said, haggler.

What Day is it Anyway?
